June; Shavano-Tabeguache-Antero Traverse: Takes place near Salida, CO. This hike begins at the Shavano/Tabeguache trailhead (9,700 ft.) and traverses three peaks; Shavano (14,230 ft.), Tabeguache (14,158 ft.) and Antero (14,271 ft.), ending at Alpine (9,400 ft.). Hikers will be dropped off and picked up. Plan on taking the food and water you will need to cover the distance. A water filter can be used at creeks to top off as needed. Total vertical gain will be 8,000-9,000 ft. and distance covered over 15 miles.
July; Belford-Oxford-Missouri-Huron Traverse: Takes place near Buena Vista, CO. This hike begins at Missouri Gulch trailhead (9,650 ft.). Climbs up to Mt. Belford (14,202 ft.), traverses the ridge out and back to Mt. Oxford (14,158 ft.), then along the ridge to Missouri Mt. (14,071 ft.) and down to Clohsey Lake at 11,000 ft. before heading up and over Huron Peak (14,011 ft.) and descending to the finish at Winfield (10,200 ft.). Hikers will be dropped off and picked up. Plan on taking the food and water you will need to cover the distance. There will be multiple opportunities to fill up with a water filter if needed. Total vertical gain will be over 10,000 ft. and distance covered 17-18 miles.
Late August/Early September; Nolan’s 14: This is a high demand/high commitment 90.6 mile traverse across fourteen 14,000 ft. peaks with 44,000 ft. of vertical gain. The route begins at the Shavano/Tabeguache trailhead near Salida, CO and finishes at the Leadville, CO fish hatchery. There will be supported checkpoints with food, water and resting accommodations at mile 14.6 (Chalk Creek Rd. 162, Alpine); mile 28.6 (County Rd. 306, Rainbow Lake); mile 58.4 (Forest Service Road 390, Winfield, CO); and mile 70.2 (Highway 82, near Everett, CO).
